Fulham has two premiership football clubs in its borders, Chelsea Football club and Fulham football club, Fulham is the older and for most of its history was the larger of the two clubs, only in the last few decades has Chelsea grown into the larger club.
Fulham were formed in 1879 making them the oldest professional football team in London and were originally called Fulham St Andrew’s Church Sunday School football team changing the name to Fulham in 1888.
Fulham moved to their current home ground of Craven Cottage in 1896 and has a capacity of 25,700.
Fulham have only reached the final of the FA cup once in their history losing to the far superior giants of football West Ham United in 1975 two goals to nil.
Fulham Football club is owned by the Egyptian born multimillionaire businessman Mohamed Al Fayed, famously the owner of the Harrods department store in Knightsbridge and the Hotel Ritz Paris.
Mohamed Al Fayed purchased the then second division Fulham football club in 1997 for thirty million pounds. Al Fayed announced his plans to restore Fulham back to the top division within five years, this he achieved a year earlier than planned when under manager Jean Tigana Fulham won promotion to the Premier division.
In the 2008/2009 season Fulham finished in seventh place winning them entry to the Europa League.
Although Fulham football club have never achieved any honors of note they have had a number of notable players including George Cohen, Bobby Robson and Alan Mullery as well as the greatest English football to have lived, the legendary Booby Moore.
