I often wonder whether it is better to hire a car or to rely on public transport. I am not keen on driving on strange roads and so when I last went to Fulham I decided not to hire a car but to just use the local public transport. I was sure that it would all be fine, more relaxing, easier and possibly cheaper. However, it was a decision that I later regretted.
I am not sure whether I just chose a bad day or whether it was typical of Fulham but I seemed to be met by disaster. I could not get a taxi for ages to start with and then when I decided to get a bus, it was really late and then broke down so I had to wait for another and then my train home was also delayed. I felt like I was hanging around waiting for transport all day long and it was not much fun at all, probably not helped by the fact that it was really cold and raining. Waiting around is bad enough when it is nice weather let alone when you are wet and wind blown and I was getting crosser and crosser too. It actually put me off Fulham, which I think was rather unfair as it should not be a reflection of the place, but I think this sort of thing sticks in the mind. Hopefully, if I do decide to return, I will find that hiring a car makes the whole experience a much nicer one.

Picture the scene; you’ve just arrived in London on the train and are staying in the Fulham area. Naturally, you don’t have a car but you don’t think that it’s much of an issue – you’re only here for a few days and the train and bus service will provide adequate transport for you. Yet, just getting to your hotel is a struggle. The train station is a tube and an over-ground train away from the station you arrived in London at, and even then the hotel is another twenty minute walk away. By the time you get to bed, you’re absolutely shattered and fed up with public transport. There is, however, another solution.
It is very easy to hire a car when you’re down in Fulham. If you have access to a computer you can go online and search to see if there is a vehicle that suits you. The cars range from people carriers to three door hot hatchbacks – anything you could possibly want you can hire for anywhere between a few days to a few weeks. The service is so quick and easy to use it makes much more sense to hire a car than attempt to use public transport; I know who I’d trust to get me places on time given the choice between me and a bus. Journeys are made so much easier if you use a hire car because you are totally in control. You don’t have to rely on others to make sure that you get to your destination; you can make sure that you get there on time.
